SuperMoto Wheel Setup for 2007

Hello All,

I'd love nothing-more than to have a supermoto wheel setup to swap as the mood hits me. I'm wondering if I can go back and forth to stock without too much of a headache.

I've done a little reading/research, and have heard of some "wheel-maker's" ending up with a rear wheel that would not fit. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Thanks!

An extra set of wheels would be a nice thing to have. Personally a road and off-road set would be nice.
You should be able to convert between an 18" and 21" front wheel but the sag will change for both.
The rear wheels should be simple.
The cost is more than most want to spend.

I spent about $30 for a front hub and about 350 for Buchanan's to lace up a Sun front black rim. I'm still looking for a rear hub.

KLR600 front hub with a KLR650 rotor. Excel 17"x2.50" rim with Buchanan spokes. Rim and spokes bought thru procycle.us for slightly under $250 (cheaper than buying direct from Buchanan).

Tom that is one big-ass front tire. Can you tell us how it feels with respect to the stock 21" rim and tire?

The 17" front feels planted a bit better than the 21". The front tire is a 120/9/17" Kenda K761 reversed (mounted backwards). Notice the tall sidewall height of the front tire. In actuality, the front end of the bike only sits about 3/4" lower than with a 21" front wheel/tire combo. You know as well as me how much this has been hashed over on other KLR650 forums I just like the looks and built the wheel because at the time I was bored and happened to have the spare money.

Tom,

It definitely looks good and if it works for you then it is the right choice.

Did you do anything to compensate for the 3/4" drop of teh frontend?
