burnormal, If you attempt to tighten the axle nut to anywheres near proper torque of 50-70 foot pounds, the wheel probably won't hardly even turn without that spacer between them.
The rear wheel axle has to be tight enough to not slip fore & aft in the chain adjustment slots when on the brakes and then the throttle. Not very possible without that spacer.
