Smile Whats this clear tube in carb??

Hello all. I took out my carb so I could clean it, and I noticed that the clear tube sticking out of the left side of carb wasn't connected to anything. It just dangled at the other side, under the seat and frame. When I say clear tube, I mean its like a transparent yellow color; you can't miss it if you are on the left side of bike looking at the carb...I put my carb back in place, but didn't know what to do with the clear tube....

Should this cable be connected to anything? Or is it like an overflow cable that dumps excess gas? I know it sounds cheesy, but I don't know.

Thanks for any help

That's the carb's bowl vent hose. If that get's blocked off, your bike will run realy poorly, because gas won't be able to be sucked up out of the bowl and into the jet. Ask me how I know that....

There's a mod called the T-Mod, where you put a "T" fitting in that line and have the vent line run down behind the engine, and also up under the seat. It ensures that the vent won't get blocked.

Blockage usually occurs when you run the bike through water and water, mud, or crap gets up in the line.

They fixed this on the '08s by running the vent line up under the seat instead of behind the engine. It still can get blocked, though, and cause your bike to run really crappy for a couple hundred miles until you figure it out. Again, ask me how I know...

Cool But what does it connect to?

Hi, and thanks for your response.

I don't know what this hose connects to. One side is still on my carb, and the other side is just dangling in the air. What do I connect the other side to?

Thanks,

I think I've got it, Tom!

Ok, I think I understand! If its a vent, does that mean that it is supposed to let air escape the carb? In that case, it is not supposed to be connected to anything, right? If you want to T-mod it, then you can run extension hoses off to the sides and let those dangle!

Does this thing just dangle and let air escape then?

Thanks, Tom...

Yes, it just vents to the atmosphere. If you do the T mod it gives it a couple different places to vent in case the lower one gets clogged. Good idea to route it doun behind the engine out of the way of anything moving so if any gas ends up in the hose it will drip onto the ground and not onto anything important.

What bakada said.

On the 08's I seem to recall that there is a figure 8 shaped rubber thingy that is attached tot he crank vent hose that the carb vent also goes through to sort of hold it in place. Dunno about the pre '08s.

Talking Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the info guys! I think I'll proceed with this T-mod, sounds like a fun fix. I have an 06, so my hose just dumps about 6 inches behind the carb, and about 10 inches down.

Ran mine ('09) uphill along the underside of the tank.
Runs fine.

P.S. Mine's pink. Hope this is the same line being discussed. lol

That's the one.

I think that if you dump your bike and get fuel in that line that you may find you've got a blocked line, even if it's running upwards. Just some experience with the '08+ re-routed vent tube. It's not fixed...

It can also be called a Y mod because the fitting can also be shaped like a Y.
The simple mod is under the seat. The same place Kawasaki updated its location in '08. The tank T mod wil give you a higher position for high water crossings.
