Exhaust

Thinking of putting on a high performance exhaust on my 03 KLR to improve horse and sound. Any suggestions ?

You will find half of the riders like an aftermarket exhaust and the other half don't care.
Personally I think you can spend the $400 on something better like a 685 kit. Huge powerband, better horse power, same gas mileage.

Tim covered it pretty well. I have "stock modified" and it didn't cost a cent
other than the holesaw bit. Pulled the baffle and let the spark arrestor keep things
quiet while flowing huge amounts of air. You can feel every blast when standing behind the thing while it's warming up.

The drawback is weight. The stocker weighs quite a bit. If that's the only change, running a gallon less gasoline will achieve the same weight loss.

One vote for the 22 cent mod, opening the airbox and stock muffler breathability.

I stuck a White Bros slip-on on my DR650 and it was ungodly loud and I lost the bottom of the torque curve for about 3-5 hp upstairs. Crappy tradeoff.

Whoops. Great sound too. Nice bark when I yank the go cable. Noise-friendly at idle and steady cruise.

I have the FMF Q4 pipe and it is a little more throaty and not loud. Love it.
