HID converison, plastic, and Doohickey questions

Hi newb here,
Just picked up a very low miles '97 but, it'll need some help.

Any negative impacts from HID headlamp conversion? Specifically, mounting the ballast, lens/reflector issues, surge current drawdown? I've got one on my R1100RT and can't be happier. I can maybe relay around any starter issues but, would like to know in advance.

Plastic has sat in the sun and is bleached/crazed etc on the front end. Meguiars Plastic Polish and elbow grease or, is there something better?

How does one tell if the Doohickey has been done in the simplest manner possible?

thanks in advance
Peter

Hello Peter!!
I don't know anyone who's done a HID conversion on a KLR, so I'll be interested in watching any replies on that topic.

Plastic.. Some people have worked hard and gotten fair results.. If it's bad, I'm lazy and I'd either go with Krylon Plastic Color Paint, or a treatment of bedliner looks pretty cool on the bikes.. I've gone the really lazy route.. Let it fade and toss stickers on it.

As far as the Doohickey, you're going to have to remove the side engine cover at a minimum. I can't remember if you'll need to remove the flywheel or not.. I'm sure someone who's recently done one can pipe up on what you can inspect without tearing everything out..

Thanks for the replies.
I am a satisfied customer of vvme.com but, don't want a car kit for this bike due to the limited space.
ddmtuning.com makes a pretty small one for a real good price right now.

For simplicity the previous owners are your best bet.

As Paper said...left side cover and you don't have to remove the rotor. You might need another left side cover gasket.

The previous owners are your best bet.
