Tires

Hi, I have a new to me '01 KLR 650, and the rear tire is somewhat spent. Im going to ride 50-50% asphalt/dirt, and I need some tires recomendations. The dirt will include some 20% mud, and rural roads.

Regards, and congratulations for such a nice forum

Regards

I think the best tire for the KLR is the MEFO Explorer 99

corbin seat, doohickey, agm battery, subframe bolts, progressive springs, stainless brake lines, anti vibration mirrors, wolfman expedition tank bag, panniers, electric outlet for gps, clock, moved license plate, magnetic drain plug, mefo explorer 99 tires, 320 mm Rotor with Galfer green pads front and black on rear

Tires

I have been happy with the Kenda K761 tires. About $50 and about 70/30 (onroad/offroad)

I am riding the Metzeler Sahara Enduro 3's and have been very pleased. Recommended by MarkB4 and he was spot on. Probably considered a 70/30 tire. Coming up on 5k and the rear still has a ways to go. I took them off-road recently in some really slimiy clay mud and could not believe that they hooked up on a short hill climb. I have also ridden them on a 1500mi road trip and thought that they did very well on wet & dry pavement. Some complain about the noise, but it doesn't bother me much. Relatively expensive, but worth it.

I used Dunlop 607's and they were fantastic on the road. Dirt was not their friend. I then went to Kenda K270's. Loved the "dirtability" and the street worthiness of the tires with the exception of the rear on the street. It was awful and inspire little to no confidence. I changed the rear tire to a Kenda K761. I love this tire on the street. In dirt it was so so and in mud it was plain aweful!
Tonight, I mounted some Shinko 244's on her. We'll see what those are like on a ride I'm going on this weekend. I'll report my finding.

Oh, and I just mounted some 606's on my 99 KLR. I'm looking forward to trying those out in dirt.

Question Shinko 244 vs. Shinko 700 Dual Sport Tires

I am interested in a comparison of Shinko 244 vs. Shinko 700 Dual Sport Tires. Which is more aggressive offroad? Which is better on street.
I am interested in putting on a Kawasaki KLR 650 which will be used 50% on the soft sand Ocala National Forest roads near me and 50% on the street getting to those sand trails.

Thanks for all the help, I tried to find some of the recommended tires, with no luck. Im going to order some from USA next month. In the meantime, I ended up buying Bridgestone Trail wing 41 and 42, (the only 50-50% tires I could find), and when I found them, I did a quick search and found different opinions about them. Im going to use them for now, and order some in the next month or so.
I just did a 220 mile trip 70% off road, and they performed acceptable.

Regards

I ran a set of 607's front and rear. The front wore perfect. The back scalloped a little, but I felt confident on road with minimal noise.
