There is, periodically, one down near San Diego. Notices appear here well in advance.

Where in SoCal are you, and are there some specific things you want to do?

colacacher-

I have the doo tools, we could probably arrange a doo party sometime, somewhere.

Your '05 we can probably help with here on the forum.

To start, it sounds like it's running off of the gas in the bowl. When it dies, some gas dribbles into the bowl over the course of 10 minutes, and then it'll run again. Could be a defective vacuum side on the petcock.
It could also be that your tank vents are bad, starving the engine of fuel. After it quits, the tank eventually returns to atmospheric pressure, and off she'll go again.

Other possibilities are more dastardly, so let's begin with those.

Do either of these scenarios sound likely?

Anybody got anything else?

I installed my vacuum pump on the petcock vacuum line and it will hold a vacuum 20 in for 15 min and still at 20in

Yes, it is easy to do. Simply make a blanking plate and a fuel resistant gasket and install them in place of the vacuum bits. Then block off the vacuum port on the carburettor. You can get away with just installing a gasket, but it may tend to leak. You don't need to ask me how I know that...

Another , perhaps simpler, route (especially if you don't want to mess with fabbing up a plate) is to install a Yamaha Raptor petcock at a cost of about $25.

Details are here.

OK. When you open the petcock with the pump on it I presume gas comes pouring out.

Try going for a ride with the gas cap open to see if it is a tank venting issue.
