I have done three rebuilds on the KLR with the 685 kit, one which was my bike. There is a gent down south that sells the whole kit for the complete rebuild for 450.00
You will get all the gaskets,cyn, piston ready to go back in the motor.
I would replace the valve seals, plus check the valves while apart.

You will like the 685 kit I'm sure.

Just send your jug to Matt at;
Import Auto Parts Machine Shop

They do a bunch of 685's on a regular basis. Turn around is quick.

Silly question, but: How much difference does it really make?

Here are some dyno results. http://www.patmanracing.com/klrdyno.htm
The 685 is good for about a 10% increase in power. If you want to go to the expense, a ported big valve head and exhaust can push it up over 30% or a total of 45HP.

Good numbers. I'm just wondering whether you feel it that much when you're doing everyday riding.

Thanks for the website. Very interesting.

Yep you know it's there. The power characteristics are still the same there's just more grunt whenever you twist the throttle.
