Quick question on my HT - PD Nerf setup

I ordered the full setup (w/ skid plate). for my 2011 KLR. After reading through the instructions and the supplemental instructions from their website it seems that the skid plate should be installed at the same time as the PD Nerf setup. Unfortunately, the skid plate is backordered until July.

Question is: Can I install the PD Nerf setup now, and then just throw the skid plate on when it comes in? I really don't want to have to disassemble the PD Nerf setup after it's installed.

I really want to take her out on some dirt but would really feel stupid if I break some expensive plastic while my protective bars are collecting dust on my shop floor.

Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck -

I don't know if they have changed the design in the last few years, but I have removed my skid plate for maintenence and left the bars alone. I don't beleive they are interconnected.

Go fer it!

The skid plate goes on AFTER the PD bars. I just installed my entire kit on my 2011 as well. The only issue is going to be that your engine is now unprotected.. If I were in your position, I would be working out a way to modify the OEM skid plate to work temporarily.

Good point. I figured if I'm just doing moderate dirt roads, I won't need the skid plate. After reading your post I started thinking about rocks being thrown at the motor. So now it's a work in progress.

Yes, the skid plate can be installed after the nerf bars. My plate took three extra weeks to arrive. It is a rather substantial piece.
