Strange clutch pack in brand new KLR650

I bought my KLR brand new a couple weeks ago, and am now putting a Rekluse auto clutch in it. When I tore the clutch apart, it only has 7 friction plates and 6 steel drive plates. Every manual and diagram I have seen, including the service departments data, shows 8 friction and 7 steel are required for this bike.

Looking at my clutch pack, there is not room for an additional friction and steel plate, so it was designed that way from the factory. This makes it impossible to convert it to a rekluse clutch.

What did Kawasaki do? Put in a clutch pack from a different model bike and it just happened to work? Anybody else have this problem, and what to do about it?

Looking at the parts schematic for an 09 shows 8 friction plates and 7 discs.
What year is your KLR?

My KLR is brand new, 2011. The schematics do show 8 friction and 7 steel. Not mine though...

Can you take some pics of the basket, plates and discs?
