engine stalls when applying any throttle

hello all,

just went to start my '09 after it had been sitting in the garage for about a month. had a hard time getting it started, and any use of the throttle would kill the engine. once it warmed up it couldn't get beyond about 1800 rpm's without stalling. the choke had to be fully applied for it to even run (just barely giving it any more gas killed it, as did backing off on the choke). this bike is completely stock and was running great before my vacation about a month ago. now i can't get it out of the garage. any ideas?

thanks so much in advance.

A good carb cleaning should have it running good as new. Todays gas is such garbage it only takes a few weeks to reek havoc.

i will give a can of sea foam a shot. can you get it at any auto parts store? also, does it have to be sea foam or should other carb cleaners do the trick?

The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. It wouldn't run off-choke and any throttle manipulation killed it.

My pilot jet was clogged. I had to take it out and clean it/blow it out. Aside from the .22 mod, this is the only time I've tinkered with my carb. The next year, I used Seafoam in the tank before storing it for the Winter and had no problems.

If running the Seafoam through it doesn't work, it's no big deal to pull your pilot jet out and take a look-see at it to make sure it's clean. Did the trick for me, anyway.
