High pitched ticking

Hi all,
So it's been a while since I was on here but am glad to have this great resource. So this morning when I started my bike it made several loud ka-chunk sounds then started. This is not the first time it has made such sounds but this time it seemed to take a little longer to actually turn over. So I let it warm up and then started off to work. I got about a mile and a half away and to my first stop sign and wen I stopped I noticed it. A loud high pitched ticking sound. I stopped immediately and listened to it. I turned around and came home to drop it off and drive my truck. When I got home this evening I did the balancer adjust and checked the oil. Oil was a little low but I could see it in the window so I added about half a quart. So after these adjustments I started it up and it still has the high pitched ticking. Any ideas what this might be? Where I should start looking?

It is an 08 with 25000 miles on it. I'm going to try to check valves tonight when I get home. If not then this weekend.

Have you adjusted the Doo or changed the OEM out? If the valves haven't been adjusted for sure they need it, the hard starting is a symptom.

Do you know about the "deep hole" problem? The starter gear shaft needs to shimmed out on early Gen 2s

You can use a screwdriver like a stethoscope to find the area that's making the noise. Hold it against the engine and put your ear up to the handle.
