Question New Bike New Member Need Modificaton Info

Had my 2009 for a year or so and have 6500 miles on it so far. Got the tire, racks, seat and other basic stuff dialed in, but what I need is some more giddyup. This is my first dual sport bike after decades of riding motorcross and am enjoying the pavement time between dirt. What are the basic and cheap mods that really work? (22 cent (wtf is this?), exhaust, suspension etc. All responses appreciated.

If you need significantly more giddyup, you need another bike unfortunately. .22 mod will improve throttle response, so will KLX needle. Exhaust will drop some weight and improve sound but not significantly improve power.

Spend a little time/money dialing in suspension, and remember you're essentially riding a tractor. Great all around machine, but definitely not a speed demon.

Garage
Search for .22 mod, airbox snorkle & frugal exhaust. It makes the bike a lot more fun.

For more giddyup, my suggestion:

Attach high-lift chain hoist to your KLR650. Lift to the upper limit of hoist; both wheels off floor, bike raised to ceiling height if possible.

Place Husqvarna TE630 in place formerly occupied by KLR650.

Ride Husky away!

TE630's sell, new, very close to the MSRP of a new KLR650. No way, even with the collective hop-up genius of the entire KLR community, prominently including the expertise on this website, will your KLR650 approach the power and nibleness of the TE630, out-of-the-box, off-the-showroom-floor.

Whitebread117 nails the issue in his post above.

What a cheeky fellow with the Husky.....but nicely put though...hee, hee.

Now back to what you asked... first things first... do the Eagle Mike doohickey torsion spring upgrade, then proceed to upgrade the rear suspension and brace the front forks, perhaps fit a steering damper...and ride the bike.
...... lots and lots.....then upgrade exhaust to an aftermarket pipe....and ride the bike....lots and lots.
As already noted, the KLR is not a speed demon, it is however reliable and somewhat comfortable.
Enjoy your KLR.
