Sidestand fell off

Anyone had this happen to them?? The bolt came loose and the damn thing fell off. Luckily it was in my driveway. Now my bike is taking a nap, I am sure the neighbors are pleased with the view.

Seems one of the tabs at the top of the side stand bent and the bolt worked its way loose. I should have seen it coming as when I parked it, the angle got more and more leaned over. Looks like all I need to do is bash the tab to straighten it out and the reattach.

It's funny you should mention this, I've never had it happen on my KLR (yet!) but I did have the bolt fall out of the sidestand on my new Shadow ACE shortly after I bought it. I was not a happy camper! Lol

Picked up a $1.15 bolt from ACE to keep the sidestand on for a week and ordered a replacement bolt and nut (I didn't realize there was one) from the dealer.

I am just curious how the side stand got bent like that.

You didn't do this to solve a kickstand/swingarm clearance issue did you? I did. Probably just a matter of time before mine fails and falls off, too.

Nope.

I had been pulling the bike over onto the side stand so that it would lean left rather than stand up and fall over, so doing that repeatedly probably bent that ear and pulled the bolt out.
