Shock Absorber Setting

I wanted to go in with an educated idea of the setting my shock absorber and rebound dampening force adjuster should be at before I opened it up and changed what they were set at by the dealer.

I'm about 230 lbs, usually carry light gear and no passenger, and the bike will spend 90% of it's time on paved roads. What's your opinion of the settings I should use?

A bad day on the bike is better than a good day at work...
There's no such thing as enough storage space...

First off you will find the stock shock is pretty weak. I weigh about 225 and have my rear shock set on number 4. The number 3 setting will give you a smoother ride which is fine if you are just commuting in normal traffic around town etc. but on the open highway I found mine wallowed if pushed too hard through the corners. The number 4 solved the wallow problem.
