Battery recommendation?

My battery finally died and I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a good value battery.

The PO put a gel batt in mine from Oreillys for $80-90. Fires right up in this cold weather. Whenever I put the battery charger on it, it tops right off, so its holding a good charge.

Maybe not such a good value but I replaced my OEM with a Batteries Plus CYL X2-15L
AGM Maint free. $85
14 AH
CCA 220

Starter never cranked like this even when new and never have to add water.

Gray-haired riders donít get that way from pure luck.

If you're interested, here's a pretty comprehensive list of battery brand names and the company that actually manufactures them along with where they're based.

http://www.jgdarden.com/batteryfaq/batbrand.htm

I just buy whatever off-the-shelf offering they have at Wally World since they carry US-made batteries that are made right here where I live.

I've learned that if you buy a standard wet, lead-acid battery, proper maintenance is the key to an acceptable life span.

Same here.. The Wally World batteries are made by Johnson Controls in the USA and they seem to have excellent life span..
This weekend a friend bought one of the new Lithium batteries by Shorai.. They're so light they feel like they're empty. I have no experience with them, but they're pretty cool to mess with.

The battery in my GS was well used when I bought the bike and this fall it pretty much gave up the ghost if I wasn't riding it. It's a standard (and cheap) size being a 14BS and I'm shopping for a battery for it right now.. The safe guy in me is just tempted to get a USA made Yuasa for $80, which comes with a 2 year warranty. I'm going to keep watching this topic for more options..

Thanks for all of the great info! Made me realize that I know nothing about batteries. Not disappointed in the death of the stock battery, but thinking I should go for the next step up.

I have a battery tender but it was not hooked up to the bike. Will the battery tender help battery life if I keep it plugged in while the bike sits?

How long did the original last? You're only going to see 3-4 years maximum from a motorcycle battery.
Did you keep it full of water? KLR's are known for cooking water out of a non-sealed battery.
Battery tender is great if the bike sits a long time, but less than a month, I don't feel it's needed.
