Things you've bolted to the rear carrier

I'm a cheap arse after purchasing 2012 KLR and adding a Corbin seat. Currently I have a Target Milk crate ($4.99) strapped to the rear carrier. What are some alternative (cheap) carriers that the brain trust has modified and mounted to the rear carrier? Pics would be great.

Check out the Action Packer, available at Lowes and Walmart, for about 20 bucks.

Do a Google search for Action Packer KLR, or search this site for Action Packer and I believe you will find mounting instructions.

You are the genesis of my post! Looks great. How did you mount it?

I also use the Action Packer. It works well, but I wish they made like a 10-gallon or 12-gallon version. The next one up from the 8-gallon is really too large to use as a carrier.

I can carry my work stuff in it, then when I get to work I can stash my riding gear in it, but there's no stopping on the way home to pick anything up. It would be nice to also put my rain gear in it, but it won't fit, thus the 18-pack soft cooler I put in front of it to carry my rain gear: also doubles as a very nice back rest.

You can just drill some holes in the bottom of it and bolt it to the rack with some large fender washers to reinforce the plastic as it's not all that thick.

My second option. Given my druthers, I would leave this on all the time but I need a waterproof box when commuting so usually leave the Action Packer on.

It's a collapsible milk crate. I like it because it enables you (when stowed) to swing your leg over the seat to get on.

The Action Packer requires a kind of "hurdler" mount, one leg over the seat, that I'm surprised doesn't get me pulled over more often when a cop seeing me get on or off the bike in a parking lot mistakes my oafishness and lack of balance for drunkenness.

When collapsed and folded down, it's only about an inch and a half thick. When set up for use, I'd say it's about twice the size of a plain milk crate.

Here's a link if you're interested. I think it's where I got mine.

The 8-gallon Action Packer. As wrenrj1 noted, the last time I saw them at Lowe's they were around $18. I thought about getting the 24-gallon and mounting it longitudinally on the bike, but it's just too big.

I have one of those JC Whitney large travel trunks, I love it! It's not as cheap as the Actionpacker but you occasionally see it on sale... I wanted to buy another for my other bike but JC Whitney subbed out their international shipping and now it would cost me over $200 (price, shipping, taxes) to get it here .

Oh, and since the international shipping price is so dear, for my second bike I'm putting on... An Actionpacker

To mount my Action Packer I used four of the existing bolt holes; the two bolt holes closest to the rear of the rack and the two bolt holes behind the tool holder. To give it more support and strength I cut a piece of 1/4 inch PVC board to fit in the bottom of the Action Packer. I then used fender washers and bought longer bolts. It takes about a minute to install or remove.
