Serious backfiring issue

Hi all.

2011 KLR650, just broken in at slightly over 1200km's.

I installed a Big Gun full system, dynojet stage 2 kit (3rd groove 155 main 2.5 turns out on the idle/air) and did the L mod.

I also broke the choke fitting (stoopid as I read numerous posts referring to that probability but figured I could sneak it out)

Bike sparked up quickly with a little choke, idles great sounds very good but backfires like crazy, violently almost, on decel. Any ideas? I noticed a slight manifiold leak which I will adjust when it cools down. No intake leaks (checked with propane) Could the exhaust manifold leak cause it to backfire that badly?

TIA

Had a backfire today myself on my 2012 with 300 miles on the ODO. The KLR has been harder to start after my 200 mile service by the dealership. It will be going in for its 600 mile service soon, this will be on the list for discussion with the dealership.

I'd definitely get any exhaust leaks fixed first and see how it is then.

+ 1; a warranty issue; although . . . in the views of the dealership and of the manufacturer, diddling with the carburetor and exhaust may shift responsibility (not that such opinion is valid).

Minor backfire on deceleration ain't no thang and remains harmless, IMHO; more severe backfire suggests leak and/or air/fuel mixture problems, assuming an operational air cut ("anti-backfire," or coasting enricher) valve.

Well, I guess you shouldn't do stuff when you are too tired is the moral of this story. Turns out unbeknownst to me, the exhaust manifold gasket fell out while I was installing the pipe. That was the cause of my exhaust leak and my backfiring. Put it in, retorued everything and no more popping or backfiring.

I gotta say though, despite the huge weight savings, the gains from the L mod, the jet kit and the exhaust system are pretty minimal. I see people posting stuff like " I can now pull my front wheel over obstacles" wow, not my KLR! My ZX14 is a 1/8 throttle roll away from wheelie time in any gear, but the KLR would need some counter weight methinks. But, the pipe looks and sounds cool.

Also did an Eagle forkbrace and Aerbis fender. Still have my SS brake lines too install.

How do you like the fork brace? What difference does it make? Thanks.
