street tires - miles vs price

I have a 2012 KLR and the Dunlop 750 provide me with a nice road feel and traction, but they are suppose to only last 2500 miles.

I will ride 95/5 to 100% road. When I look at the tires that are available I see a front plus rear tire sets that range from approx. $100/ set to over $300/set.

That is a very big difference in price. Is there that much difference is longevity / mileage handling?

I put several sets of Conti trail attacks on my previous bike a BMW F650GS, but the prices have gone up a lot since I last bought a set.

Which set of tires provide the best miles handling for the dollars spent? Is there a dealer who has the best price on KLR size tires?

Thanks

only thing

i can say ,,is shop around..(run/like -michellin/shinko +dunlop i have is full knobbie)...i found best deals on e-bay, and or like motorcycle superstore(they normaly always have same item) BUT,,, buy when on sale = not when in dier need of one..this helps alot on price...
they ship real good and fast... is good to have new spare, handy at house,,,when tire on bike is half way point...
or if can offer to but two tires or two full sets,,,AND ASK FOR A DEAL...but shop around!!

as far as how long, they last,,seems to be how, heavy/light your right hand turns!!!

I have Continental Trail Attacks on my KLR650; Kenda K270's on my KLR650.

The cost-per-mile of the Conti's ain't that bad; a small price to pay for the superior pavement performance at speed, IMHO.

Otherwise, the K270's are both versatile and cheap. I use 3.25 X 21 and 5.10 X 17 in that tread; had 'em on both 650 and 250; went to the Trail Attacks on the 650 for their asphalt advantage and high mileage potential.

YMMV.

Try using the search function, plenty of tire info. Ask a question after you've used the resources. Really it will be more benificial for you than starting another tire thread.

I've got the shinko 705s on my klr and my veestrom. I've got nothing but good things to say about them, and they are cheap!

Sent from my phone...there will be spelling errors!

705, cheap, last pretty well. I prefer the 130/90 better than the stock /80 in the rear.

Interesting thread being a newby with less than 500 miles on my 2012 KLR. It's interesting to me that mileage on MC tires is so poor compared to vehicle tires. I'm over 52K on my Honda Ridgeline OEM Michelins. Why don't MC tires last longer than they do?

Motorcycle tires are much smaller than those on your car. The power to weight ratio is different. Bikes stress tires much more.

I use shinko 244s. $85 a set shipped, last 7k miles.

well mc only has say,,a 50cent size patch,,that IS THE ONLY PART touching the ground..

as car, truck has say,, a whole hand/or more ,,contact patch with road..;;eguals;;less heat ,tire ware , and so just lasts longer..

so first thing is,,mc tire works harded, normally softer rubber too (to increase traction)!!

second thing you have michelins..best road tire ,you can buy for highway use,,(my option),,ah is your honda 4x4,or even front wheel drive,,you will not get that many miles, out of same tire on a subaru(4x4) or sports car !!!

yes rember,,my dad always putting michelins,,on family fan,,an got plenty miles out of them.....BUT put set on my acura intega gs-r ,,,ya gone, in less then 40,000 miles.....

hope this helps.?.?.
enjoy ya ride !!
