I want the throatiest sounding exhaust...

Which one is it for my 09?

I did the frugal exhaust mod and it sounds great but...

Its not quite as inspiring as I'd like.

Any suggestions?

Careful when you start talking about modifying stock exhaust.... Some people have opinions about that, and they have nothing better to do but post them along with charts and write-ups.

I bought a aftermarket and posted about it, then it turned into a 6 page debacle.

Apparently they have been banned in Communist California.

I wish you the best of luck with your endeavor.. And hope the tree huggers don't slam you on your post, because apparently since I bought my pipe I have ruined motorcycling for everyone for ever and ever.

But to answer your question, get an aftermarket pipe. That way if the California Commies do get them banned you can go back to stock.

Really?

I am wanting a new system myself. I want a little more sound and a better look. As I have described the factory KLR exhaust look to be one of a wood stove with some drain plugs. Post up on what you do and check some videos on u-tube for KLR exhaust also. As far as that other thread, dont read to much into it as mental masterbation will also make you blind. Find a system you like, make sure its US Forestry approved, go make a little noise, roost it out of some corners, keep it legal and make some memories.

Also dont forget that that single piston thumper will never sound like a v-twin or a I-4. The KLR is great but at some levels it is what it is, an underpowered tall bike that can do everything. It just will never win the "Best Of" for anything....

Yes!

Remove the muffler entirely, and run with headpipe alone.

I'm disturbed by statements like this. We all have opinions, some of them strongly held. They are strongly held, in the minds of those that hold them, for good reasons.

When the opinions are supported by by charts and data, denigrating that support with comments like "nothing better to do" is an ad hominem attack.

An ad hominem attack is where, rather than refuting the evidence, the person presenting the evidence is attacked - in this case being passed off as an idle busybody, a gadfly.

Hmmmm.

No point in leaving them hanging around rusting and taking up space. You guys can all send your old, stock mufflers to me if you want. Based on the number of exhaust replacement posts on this forum alone, I submitted a business plan to my bank to fund an enterprise that buys and re-sells stock KLR mufflers.

I think my days of working and being Ground Down By The Man are just about over.......

I suppose the real money is in stock seats, though.
