Bike died on the way home - electrical short
Thanks to all who post here as a preface. Here's the story: Riding home from work Thursday night 11:00. Bout 40 miles from the house, buzzing along with the throttle locked at about 70MPH when she died, lights off - no power. Though I got a whiff of burning wires. Switched key back and forth 6-7 time no luck. Pushed the bike to a truck stop at the exit I died at and called the wife to come get me. The boy and me came and got the bike the next day, but waited till today to tear into it. (back-up bike 05 Goldwing) Found 4 wires behind the instrument cluster that had shorted against the brace back there. Also blew the main fuse. Spent better part of the day repairing the short and wrapping the harness in spiral wrap. Must have used 15-20 zipties to secure wires from chaffing. Would not have known what to look for without the post of others and I thank you for your knowledge.
