Im Taking my week old bike back for a overhaul !!

If i dont its going to kill someone .. Im so freakin mad this is worse than my harley .. after this 1700 mile first leg of the bike since i picked it up sunday last week its flopped 3 times due to damn kickstand , when i was unpacking picked up the trax box to clean it up the rear rack was flopping around ,all but 1 bolt of the 4 had came out ,the last one in side of frame had backed halfway out .. only thing that held traax box on was a single bolt and a small bungie attached to fender by mistake ..

when i went to show a friend he also pointed out i had lost a the bolt to the sub frame on left side by chain ..

this is rediculus , i had to loctite every bolt on my harley but my klr ?

with everything being crooked and cracking on the fairing from its falls in parking lot and now dropping bolts im pissed ..

this is not fun or enjoyable if i feel it cant be trusted ....

Harleys shake, KLR's vibrate.

I've had both and loved both for different reasons,
but one common link between the two bikes is
fastener issues.

Depending on the application, I liberally use Loctite blue,
star washers, lock washers, and longer frame bolts that
can be nutted against the factory threads on the inside
portion of the scooter.

It stays together great now. They go together pretty
fast on the assembly line by a Thailander who really loves his job.
Double-checking his work ain't a bad idea. LOL

Yup, I lost the same sub frame bolt at about 1000 miles.
Since then I have tried to Loctite everything. Even then, I had others come loose.
This spring I lost one of the seat bolts, one of the side cover bolts (bolts I take out regularly) and found the top right sub frame bolt was loose (one I never got to).
Part of the dealer prep is supposed to be checking bolt tightness. Some are better than others. That said, you will still have make it part of routine maintenace.
Loctite is your friend.

yeah i didnt expect it from my klr , my 2000 i upgraded the sub frame bolts but i never lost them or my rack bolts before ..

after chopping my kick stand 1.5 inches it made all the difference on the side stand lean ..

I took it back today on my traile,r i didnt feel safe riding it the 20 miles into town ..

i called ahead and explained all the issues ,when i got there it seemed they wanted to make it right .. i hope they do ..

i know it will be there a while due to parts being ordered up here and all, but i just want it right ...

kawasaki called today wanting to know what i thought of my new purchase so i told them of the issues .. i hope they try to fix them .. but i doubt ill ever hear another word ..

but the dealer did seem sincire and wanted to get it right without placing blame ..

Well i feel mixed but got the bike back better than when i turned it in ..
they didnt replace any cracked fairing or mounts to it but did a good job epoxying the mounts and straighting the frame for it so it sits square again .

they also went thru all the bolts and loctited it all ..replaced the missing subframe bolts and used liberal amount of loctite .

the only parts they did replace was a hand guard and little scraper on foot peg ..

but they did a good job getting it square and fixing the cracked parts .. its a week old was expecting it to be new again .. but it is a dirt bike afterall ..

they didnt charge me for anything and they never tried to put blame on me for the kickstand after they saw it fall in the shop ..

i want to ride but its 55 * and raining hard today ..

I'll see your loose bolts, and raise you a quart of burned oil every thousand!
Still the most fun bike I've ever had.

mine is hard to start though when 45* so far i found best combo for the cold wet morning starts is pull choke crack throttle fully and turn over at half throttle and catches alot faster ..

one of my firts items now is loose the dang stock plate holder and put it up high dang it looks ugly ! lol
