Rear suspension questions

Does anyone know what changed from gen1 to gen2 that reduced the suspension travel by an inch. If it was in the shock, will the gen1 shock fit the gen2 and increase the travel?

Thanks...justjeff

It wouldn't be a direct swap, at least some of the dimensions on the mounting points are different. Sorry, I can't help much more than that.

I searched this forum but did not find any posts related to this question:

I am looking at dropping a Hypercoil 450# spring (Part # 189A0450) on my 2011. A guy did it on a pre-2008 model.

Has anyone else successfully done this?

Recomendations or suggestions?

I have a stock shock in my garage that has an Eibach 350 on it, and I know it once had a 450 on it. All of the Eibachs are 9'' long and I would expect the Hypercoil to be similar. I should think it would work.

Ooops! Correction - the stock shock in my garage has a 450 on it.

BTW, the free length of the stock spring is 9 3/4".

Jeff, I am not an engineer but I think it was a mix of a few things, the uni- trak linkage, different spring rate in the shock and the redesigned swing arm added up to just a tad over 1 inch loss of travel and clearance but making it a bit more appealing to the tourer. Anyone with true data on it, post it, I am curious too!!

So I should be good with the Hypercoil 450# spring?

Unless the diameter of the spring is really different from the Eibach, it should be OK. The Eibach is 3.2" in diameter and made of .475" wire, so the inside diameter is 2.25".

Those dimensions work on a stock shock.

Would the use of an Eibach or Top Gun spring on a Gen2 shock body lower the stock seat height? I sure wouldn't want to spend extra $$ on raising links
