Please don't think I'm raining on your parade, but I wish you would of tried the Shinko 244's. They are so much better on asphalt than the 270's. But since you're doing 70 miles of highway riding I would of went with 705's.
Not hating on you, just offering some advice for next go around. :)

Its all good Savage, you have a good point. I was about ready to go with the 705 but did not. Truth be told I think I need an extra bike. Last evening I was playing in the mud in a creek by the house, not the place for that 705. The K270 did pretty well however the KLR is a pig. WR250R might be a nice toy to add?

I have run 270's since the bike was almost m(07) new. Great tire for the price, Got fairly decent milage out of them 4k on the rear average and 6k on the front. The big draw back is that they are a 2 ply tire which makes them loose in the turns and if your not ready for that feel it can spook ya. All and all I would rate them as an 8. This time I spooned on some 606's and what a vast diffrence. No more squirmies in the corners. We'll see as to milage.

I tried the 270 for the first time this summer also. I installed them to do the Dempster while on our adventure and was planning on taking them off not far after that....but, after listening to one of the guys we went with that runs these non stop, he says, run the rear at 24psi and the front at 32......seems strange I know, but it works!!! I ran that set of tire from Dawson City, up the Dempster, back down to Dawson City, down through BC, over to Vancouver Island, across to Edmonton and then back to the Toronto area all with a very very heavily loaded bike. I took them off when I got back thinking I wanted to run out a set of 761's which I love. But after getting a cut in the rear I reinstalled these 270 and they are still going strong!!! I bet they have at least 1/4 of their tread left! Unbelievable!!! They do howl a bit compared to the 761's but not enough to stop me from using them, that's for sure. Yes they are squirly at first and compared to the 761 on the street, they are down right dangerous in dry weather. But after getting use to them, they break loose for a bit then grab and brab firmly....a very strange feeling for sure!
Will I buy some more Damned Right!!! An excellent tire!

Don't get me started on Stinko shinko 244's....the rear chunked lugs the first day!!! On last summer's adventure.....total crap....You couldn't give me a set to run....great fire starters!:13:

That's kind of like saying - My KLR burned oil. I'll never buy another one of those POS.

My 244 has been great.
