Stupid Question on Fuel Mileage

Ok so I did the .22 mod and then back in and pulled a wAsher so now it is the .11 mod. I have my screw turned out 1.75 and M getting horribly has mileage I admit I had my little grease monkey charge my K&N, (he over sprayed to charge, but my fault as I told him to just spray) however, even after I switched back to stock I am getting about 39 mpg compared to 43-45 before. I am heavy on the throttle but she seems to bog down at heavy pulling. could it be possible i am shifting to low?
I did notice a slight tear I. My carb diaphragm when I went back in to pull one of my washers. It was on the outer edge and seemed to be from me pinching the diaphram under the cap (the little black top of carb that Eagle Mike screws for).. Any thoughts anyone?
I have researched the bogging down and am leaning towards picking up a new diaphragm but just want to make sure before I spend the $$$. Thanks all.

You probably need to fix the diaphragm? I was going to do the .22 mod but I looked at the work involved and decided to buy a proper needle and jet kit from a supplier (JD Jetting) that has dyno tuned their product for the KLR.

You definately need a new diaphram, go to the Hardley dealer as they are cheaper there. That is where I bought mine from when I needed one. Now I have 2 spares just a new one, they aren't that much money and you will know 100% you have a brand new item in your carb for future referance if issues do arise......oh, the 22 cent mod is just one 20thou. #4 washer by the way.....did you carefully sand off the punch marks from one side of it? Sometimes they have a ridge from the stamping which will make them much more than the 20 thou. thickness.....I would also squeeze all of the extra oil from that filter....sorry it's a K/ can't, all you can do is either dab it and try and get some out or wash it again and start over. This filter doesn't flow as well as the stock filter from what Cary bench tested it and two others. In order of best to worst....UNI/stock/K/N...sorry....

I would replace the diaphragm to make sure it's not a factor and to insure the slight tear doesn't get larger and cause problems.

I get pretty low mileage, also. With a full tank, I'll run out of gas at around 180-190 miles. .22 Mod/Low Buck Exhaust mod and stock air filter. Fuel screw out 2-1/4 turns.

Thanks guys. Kinda figured and had been doing the research, just didn't want to pull the trigger on a new one if I didn't have to. I'll probably get the klx needle since I'm going to be going in the carb anyhow. Lessons learned the hard way tend to be the bests ones though. Going to be a lot more carefulness with that stupid diaphram from now on... Thanks all!
