At a guess I'd suggest a poor ground connection for the instrument panel.

I've never needed to dig in there before and mine's an older 05 shaped bike so there would be a few differences.
I'd think that the instruments have their own gound wire or at least are connected to some form of earth.

Hopefully someone else more wise can ellaborate
Sorry I can't offer any more but auto-electrics and me are not friends.

I don't own a KLR yet, but with all of my browsing and research, what about the 'so called' 'Recall" on the '08 wiring issues? If I were to get a used '08,(or any year for that matter) I would definitely tear it down and inspect the wiring harness 'front to back' for nicks and schafing.

Where did you get the bulbs and how quick was the process?

It appears my high beam indicator bulb (blue one) burned out...at 2,800 miles. Hmmm.

I haven't checked, but I think they are 194 wedge base bulbs. They should be available at AutoZone, O'Reillys, PepBoys, you name it. Nothing special.

Aren't there some drop-in replacement LEDs available? Those should last a very long time.

Yes, I', going with http://www.superbrightleds.com/ in repolacing my instrument lights with LEDs.

Borrowed from another thread: This is what I bought, after reading this thread. I'm thrilled with this upgrade, love the extra brightness.

Tach, SpeedO, Temp - 3 | WLED-x6: 6 LED T10 Wedge Base Bulb | WLED-CW6: Natural White (looks about the same as my 4600k HID. Pure white, not yellow or blue at all)
Turn, Neutral - 2 | WLED-x-x: 1 LED T10 Wedge Base Bulb | $ 1.39 | WLED-G-90: Green 90 Degree
High Beam - 1 | WLED-x-x: 1 LED T10 Wedge Base Bulb | $ 1.39 | WLED-B-90: Blue 90 Degree

Total: $16.99 shipped
