Wolfman luggage and rack

I am 99% decided on the Wolfman saddle bags and wolfman luggage rack as my next upgrade.

But, i'm concerned about the wide nylon straps being in the way that lay over the top of the klr rear rack connecting the two wolfman bags together.
According to the installation video, these straps must always be attached. But I really don't see why as long as the luggage is attached to the wolfman rack properely. Unless it's just for added insurance that the bags don't go flying off.

Question, can someone tell me if these straps really are needed because it could be a deal breaker for me since i've already got a metal storage box attached to the stock klr rack, and these straps will not fit underneath it.
Thanks

I had the Expedition Dry Bags on for a trip.
I would recommend using the top straps for safety. Those bags get really heavy when they are loaded.

i too run wolfman expedition bags and love them compared to my old hard bags ..
the straps also help you hang the bags correctly once installed first time .. that way it always lines up and just slip buckles into the rack and tighten the cinch straps .. trying to juggle 30 lbs of gear can suck ..
