New Horns

I've been really disgusted with the meep meep Roadrunner horn on this thing, then saw Larry31's web page with the new horns. I ordered a pair from Harbor Freight - same part number as Larry and they came in last week. It was somewhat of a hassle reaching parts of it but finally got them in and tested them. Gave a short, really loud blast, then started to mumble, like they had a pillow wrapped around them.

Make a long story short, I found that the horns need to be mounted in rubber so they don't make solid contact with the frame. Hmmm........?? The mounting studs are too short to do much with, so I turned to some desperation engineering that I learned years ago.

I cut rubber washers from an inner tube, then put a dab of Gorilla Glue on the male threads and another dab on the inside of the nuts. Screwed them on so there's a little slop in moving the horns, then walked away and left it alone for a few hours.

Came back to test it and the nuts are not move-able without a wrench and past experience has taught me that the Gorilla Glue will hold them forever.

The horns ?? Oh, yah, the horns.......they REALLY blast. I'll wake those sleepy fools on the highway up now, you bet. Many thanks, Larry 31.

Thanks................Lar.

Biglar,

I am a definite fan of the "Big Horn". i installed the Steibhle air horn about a year ago. It works and sounds great. I hope that you continue to ride while making yourself known.

Your quite welcome.

Do the horns vibrate much?
Could you post pix's of the washer- nut assembly. Sounds like it would be worth trying.

Here's a short video of the way my horns sound.

BTW: I'm also a big fan of Glorilla Glue.
I use it all the time when making my outdoor bird houses. Haven't had one come apart from weather exposure yet.

I can do that, but it's really a jury-rigged outfit. How did you mount yours ??

I watched your video clip and got itchy after I hit send, so went out and tried the horns again. D*mned things are fuzzy again. I'll hafta figure out a better mounting system. Now I "really" want to know how you mounted yours.
