Oil Issues

Just found out that the '09 I purchased this summer has been "raised" with synthethic oil. My inclination is to keep using it as it seems to have used little to none in 2000+ miles. Any opinions?

Well---Stew

We just got nearly 10" of snow here, missed my Feb ride due to weather and needed to talk about something bike related! Figured oil would roll on for a while, don't you think?

True, oil conversations tend to go on for a while

Release the hounds! Lol!

Just bugging you my friend
My 08 was running Amsoil when I bought it and I switched over to Rotella at my first change after I got it. I think changing it regularly and keeping it clean is the most important thing

My personal feeling.....synthetic oils used under average driving conditions are a waste of money. Under extreme conditions they may show their worth but decent dino oil changed at proper intervals is fine under all but the most extreme conditions.

Oil Issues

I would go for a mineral oil. Castrol Active was made for KLRs

I'm an Amesoil baby!!!

I run it for the recommended distance in the bike, lets say 3000-5000kms. I take it out still golden and save it until I have enough to pour into my old Ranger......In there it comes to it's death after god knows how many miles! So....I'm recycling and in doing so I get the best oil for my bike and also good or better oil for my old truck. A win win IMHO.

Rotella oil is CRAP!!!! I wouldn't use it to keep the weeds down in my ditch!!!

Now lets see this thread ignite......lol.

Seriously....it's your bike, your pocket book and your repair expence when and IF things go bad. I do everything I can to minimize the bad in my bike. I hate walking or pushing!:beatdeadh orse5:

If its not burning it and its sealed up its fine. I would change over to Rotella or something on the less expensive side if it were me. I run Rotella and change it every 1 to 1.5K max...It looks nasty by then and the change is easy.....
