Top Gun sells a 3/4" extended shift lever for $23. It's about halfway down this page:

IMS, the same company as the gas tanks has one for 29.95 on their website. I have bought 2 of these through AVisciouscycle in Canada.I am sure you can order direct from IMS if you are located in the States. I like the quality and fit.

I was going to have them put one of their replacement springs on my stock rear shock this Winter, but didn't get it done. As far as I know, they're quite stable and reputable. They've been around awhile and were quick to respond to emails about the shock project. I believe they can be trusted.

One of the founders of Top Gun is Elden Carl and some honor him as a "KLR Guru." Pictured here second from the left in a cool photo along with Jeff Cooper if you know who he is. Elden's "bio" is posted on their web site.

I don't have any personal experience with their extended shift lever (mine's an IMS) but would imagine it's a good product.

I have the +1 extended. It makes a HUGE difference. Easier shifting with big feet and the shifting is smoother. Better angle. I would have thought this was just me being weird, but others have noted the same thing.

I highly recommend an extended shifter.

Being Cheap (hard to believe I know),I ground off the little peg mount,
and added a small section of the old fashioned alternator brackets for automotive
use with the slider slot. Used a Harley shifter peg from dumpster diving as it
has the threaded bolt coming right out of it and nutted on the other (inside) of
the slot. Now it's adjustable and barely clears the engine but works perfectly.

Not too pretty either but painted black you have to look right at it to notice. LOL

So what I read there was, you found a Harley in a dumpster and the only useable part was the end of the shifter! Good find!
