KLR shifts from 5th to 4th

I was riding along and it shifted out of 5th and dropped me into 4th. It did this twice on a 260 mile ride. Should I be concerned, as I have 1800 miles on it? What could have caused this? And what can I do to fix this?

Thanks,
Kakalaka

I'd be concerned about it, I wouldn't want to change gears without meaning too.

I'd blame it on your shoes, I've done that with good, heavy boots and wondered why it happened. I've done it a few times since then.

I'm looking for some good riding boots now, thanks for the reminder.

It quite possibly could have happened from me resting my foot over the shifter. Thanks, didn't think about that one!

I, too, have had shifting problems with big boots until I learned to get my feet to do the right thing. Hopefully it's just that.

check out an ims shifter. its longer and will give you some boot room. The klr needs firm shifts so make sure your getting it into the next gear. don't baby it.
