Adjusting Rear Shock

I have a question on adjusting the rear shock on my 2008 KLR. To adjust the shock, I've seen on one video, it says just keep tightening the bolt clockwise, and to go back to #1 setting you just keep tightening and let it bang past #5 to #1. Another video says never go past #5 to turn it counter clockwise back to #1, and to never let the shock "bang' past #5. Which is correct? Does it hurt the shock adjuster to just keep going clockwise and let it cycle past 5 to get back to 1? Thanks

Welcome to the forum D C.

The preload adjuster should only turn clockwise so yea it will just bang back to 1.

That said the early Gen 2 shock has been known to break the adjuster. Check this thread:

In the factory service manual it states, turn the adjuster clockwise for settings 1 through 5. And 5 through 1 turn the adjuster counterclockwise.

+1, there's even a "NOTICE" that states "the spring preload adjuster will be damaged by the shock" if you don't follow those instructions. It's not even a may, it's a will.

i've been researching about setting up my suspension and installing raising links and everyone seems to say to do the opposite of the manual...... lil confused
