SW Motech center stand

Anyone else having problem with instability of the sw centerstand? When I put my bike on the center stand the stand is at nearly 90 degrees. So I can't use the stand on a slite downhill or it wil run of the stand. I had a pretty bad experience today while changing my rear tire. Had bike on centerstand, changed tire, as I was putting the tire back on and trying to put the chain on before I had the axle installed I push the tire forward a bit and pushed the bike off of the center stand. You can just imagine what a mess that was when the bike fell over while the tire was not on yet. I had to get my neighbor help me get it back on the stand. I am very worried that something was damaged when the back of the bike fell on the tire/sprocket/brake rotor. Put everything back together and it seems to be ok. I would be very worried using it to change my tire alone somewhere using the center stand.

Any suggestions? Is it even worth having it?

I would definitely contact your supplier with what happened. This accident could have been much more serious and needs to be followed up. SW Motec is an ethical supplier who had no problem replacing a defective/cracked crashbar for me and I am confident they will want to hear of this and make it right for you. Your first step though is to contact the supplier and go from there.

Always use tie-downs

When changing a tire on any bike while using the centerstand, you need to use a tiedown or a strap to hold the centerstand forward. I also learned this the hard way when my BMW pancaked while the front wheel was off. Just like in your case, there was no damage - thank goodness!

My SW centerstand is also very near vertical, but works fine on a very slight downhill. Please do let us know what you find out!

I believe I got the Happy Trails centerstand and there's no worry about it falling off that one. It sits way back and takes a "very" strong pull to get it off the stand....... Lars

Curiosity - I'm not familiar with other brands, but isn't there a stop(s) under there somewhere to limit the travel of the stand ?? Would it be possible to grind or cut a little off that/those to allow it to sit farther back ??
