60k today

My '08 turned over 60k miles on the way to work today. Hasn't 'sploded yet!
Runs about the same as new I think, doesn't look quite as nice though!

I bought it to commute. It's about 50 miles a day and I ride year round in sunny SoCal. So yea the miles have pilled up.

Which brings me to an interesting problem. I would like to get a new(er) bike in the near future, probably a Suzuki V-Strom (Wee or maybe the new 1000 hey I can dream!). What to do with the KLR? I don't really need 2 street bikes but I doubt if I could sell my bike (vs. giving it away for cheap). Does it become a garage queen, cat perch, spider refuge, etc.? I was planning on giving it to my son but he's trying to enlist and wants a sports bike anyway, kids!

Ideas?

Build a sidecar. Turn it into a hack rig.

Hey Spec, if you're looking to sell - or trade - it cheap, my nephew there in town may be someone who'd be interested... He recently sold the "Piglet" (the little Yamaha V-Star 250 I sold him last spring) and picked up a used Honda 750. I gave him a little grief (Uncles can do that and get away with it) and told him he shoulda bought a KLR. He said he would have if he'd had the money...

So he might be interested in another toy.

He's pretty good with mechanical stuff - improvising and such - so I'm sure he'd be a good KLR owner. LOL!

Let me know if you want me to send him a text inquiring if he'd be interested - and if you want, let me know how much you'd be willing to let her go for so I can let him know.

Not ready to sell yet. I just opened negotiations with my CEO (aka "the wife"). Kitchen remodel might take priority

Congrats on hitting 60K!
I like the hack idea, but it's pricey to implement unless you fab everything yourself. I would be inclined to set it up with knobby tires and keep it around for trail riding so you don't beat up the Strom off road.

I'm not good at selling things, I always end up buying high and selling low. It's a curse.
