Too late to switch to synthetic?

'09' klr with nearly 10k moderate miles. I have been using traditional oil since purchased.
Is it too late to make the switch to synthetic oil? Or should the switch been made miles and miles ago?
thanks

Personally, I don't think it's too late to make the switch - but consider that I'm a mechanical imbecile...

...That being said, next oil change I may be making the switch myself. My 2012 has about 4,600 miles on it. And IF I remember correctly, I read someplace where it's recommended to go at least 5,000 miles before switching from dino-juice to synthetic.

Yup, I agree.

Synthetic oil's biggest advantage is its resistance to heat. And feel free to change to or mix with dino oil, just pay attention to the viscosity.

The only thing you'll notice on the KLR is less money in your wallet.

I'm fairly convinced that if you change your oil every 3000 miles, you can put pretty much anything in there you want.

I've had bikes where I could notice a big difference in shifting between 20W 50 synthetic and 10W 40 synthetic, and the oil was filthy by 800 miles. The KLR is not one of those bikes. I just use dino oil and change at 1500 miles. 3000 miles would be fine but it takes me awhile to get to 1500 as my miles are split up.
