What to look for
If everything goes as planned, my cruiser will go to its new owner tomorrow and I will have some money to spend on my own KLR. I am excited and have been looking at the ads on Craigslist as well as Uncle Henry's (which is popular in my state) for what seems like months. There is a bike available and the price sounds really great. Not exactly too good to be true, but still significantly lower than some others. That's where my questions come in.
The bike is a 2009 with just under 3,000 miles and the owner is asking $3,000. In Maine and the rest of New England, '09s are usually listed anywhere from $4,000 to $5,000 depending on miles and condition. I haven't even contacted the seller yet because it doesn't make any sense until I have money to spend but he did send me a few pictures along with a very brief description.
The bike is blue. The right upper fairing has a crack running from the inside to the outside on the top portion of it and the paint is blistered a little in a couple spots on the fairing. The front of the front fender is faded quite heavily as though it saw a lot of sun, but the rest of the plastic looks brand new.
I priced these two parts and they can be bought for under $200 plus the cost of new decals.
I can ask the seller if the bike burns oil (as I have heard that some '09s did), but will he tell me? Doubtful. I'm always a little weary of something that looks as good as this bike does, with as few miles as it has, for a lower price than others are selling for.
The bike is in state but is almost a 3 hour drive from where I live. I don't mind saying no, but I hate to go that far and come back empty handed.
What questions should I ask and what should I look for if I do go see the bike. As I said, in the pictures he sent me, the bike looks very nice and looks like it was kept under cover.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
