I am not sure what to tear apart first? I have a New to me í08 KLR with only 2,200 miles on it!!
The PO hardly ever rode the bike and left it outside all itís life.
The first 200 miles I put on the bike last week was awesome. It ran like a champ it ran perfectly.
However, I rode it home another 220 miles on Sunday: Sunday morning it was still running great. I filled with gas and headed home. It immediately began missing and choking out as it was running at any speed from 30 to 70. It would run at speed, but hurky jerky missing and stuttering.
Like bad gas. I had no choice but to keep riding it home. It made it home, bucking and missing the whole trip. It seemed like bad gas, or fuel starvation because it idled just fine and revving the throttle didnít seem to display any stuttering.
At home I drained the fuel. The fuel seemed to drain fine, a steady small steam of fuel, but it was difficult to really see and monitor the fuel stream. Filled with fresh premium fuel and added some SeaFoam. After another 60 miles it has not fixed the poor running. Idles fine, reves up fine, but under load and at speed it stutters and misses.
I thought perhaps it was just the Lean settings I read about on the KLR starving it for fuel, so Yesterday I did the 22cent mod and the L mod in hopes of fixing or finding the problem. No luck. Runs just as poorly as before, maybe a little harsher missing because the mods seemed to make it want to GO.
I spent the entire day doing the mods. Now I must do more to find this problem, but I am not sure where to start looking.
Any ideas would help me.
Are there screens in the gas tank petcocks?
Should I start by rebuilding the Carb?
Could any ignition parts be causing this constant missing?
So, could a fouling spark plug cause this?
Thanks in advanced for any suggestions or ideas. Harvey
