Rear tire size.

Do all the KLR's have a 17" back rim? Or is it just my '09 Gen 2 bike? Unless I'm grossly mistaken I'm reading the size on my Kenda K731 I have on the rear now as a 17" tire.

Edit: It is a 17" tire so my question is in regards to the two widths I have available to me. The 4.60 and the 5.10 respectively. Is this another coin toss situation between the two widths or is one better than the other?

I think 5.10 is closer to the metric OEM tire size.

Regardless, I run 5.10-17s on both my KLR650 and KLR250; exhaust shimmed outboard for clearance on the latter.

Little practical operational difference between 4.60 and 5.10 width, I imagine; however, my intuition suggests the wider tire provides better "flotation," perhaps increased traction under some riding conditions, and . . . even greater mileage, one might hope. Inference only; no data backup; YMMV!

Use the 5.10 size.
