another oil question

I changed my oil and filter the other day and filled it with exactly 2.5 liters of oil. Should I have not done that? I know the manual says it holds 2.5 liters of oil but when I look at the site glass it goes past the high line. Did I put too much oil in? Should I remove some? Thank you.

There shouldn't be a problem.....

Once the engine is running all that oil has a place to be....... in the filter, on the clutch............

I follow the mannual for all of my regular maintenance, so far no issues.

Since I haven't played with a 08', my question is, did you check that with the bike vertical? I know the old one's had to be checked with the bike straight up and down, holding the bike that way while looking in the site glass..

Like I said, I've not even ridden an 08', let alone performed maintenance on one. Just wondering.

On my 02' I typically run the oil a bit over full as to what the sight glass shows. On them, there's no high or low line.. I just make sure my glass is always covered in oil (and then just a touch more)..

Ditto, I like the sight glass to be completely full, in relation to the bike straight up and down, not leaned over on kickstand.

I checked the oil with the bike vertical (standing straight up) and the oil is at the top of the sight glass. I think it is okay. I rode it the day after I changed the oil and it ran fine. I think the bike didnt have the right amount of oil in it when I picked it up from the dealer. If it had the right amount of oil it would have been at the top of the sight glass when they did the walk around with me.

When the bike is leaned over on its side stand, you will see NO oil at all in the site glass. The bike has to be verticle to read the oil level.

Okay, with the bike on the side stand I can see a little oil in the sight glass. With the bike vertical the oil is visible to the top of the sight glass.

As a life long motorcycle mechanic I can say you should always check your engine oil with the bike balanced VERTICAL. And, it is not beneficial if you run oil higher than the HIGH mark in the window. As a matter of fact in extreme cases it can cause oil leaks, higher oil consumption, blown engine seals or gaskets, and it causes loss of power due to extra drag. Enough is enough. More is not better.

Ok, 1 more time folks. I drained the oil and replaced the filter. I added the exact amount of oil it says to in the manual which is 2.5 liters.

When the bike is on the side stand (I know you aren't supposed to check it on the side stand) I can see a little oil in the sight glass.

When I stand the bike up vertically the oil in the sight glass is all the way to the top.

When I first got the bike I don't think the dealer or whomever puts the oil in the bike put the right amount in because the level was never close to what it is now after I changed the oil.

My question is: Did I put too much oil in the bike even though I added the exact amount that is specified in the manual? Sorry for being such a pain but the bike runs fine and haven't had any problems since I changed the oil.

And if I did put too much oil in, how do I get some out so I don't ruin the engine.
