Thanks for the reply but I'm not looking at any performance mods right now, more like anything that could strand me like known electrical gremlins, frame issues needing beefed, generally any "weaknesses" that I could address before they turn up 20 miles from town.

The KLR seems to have a long history of being reliable except for the doohickey but besides that, what other "gotchya's" should I watch for or upgrade?
I'm happy with the performance though it does run lean but having a full 2 year warranty I'm staying away from doing anything that could violate that.
dan,
Are you doing your own break-in maintenance or having someone else do it? Either way, one needs to remove the skid plate, side bodywork and fuel tank and check almost every nut, bolt, screw and spoke one can get a wrench on!
Then check and/or adjust cables, chain, doo-hickey, check battery fluid, engine coolant, clean & Re-Oil the air filter properly. (If you haven't already)
Oil & filter change, of course.

As to longer term, some say you should disassemble & re-grease your entire rear suspension after the 1st or 2nd year. Also partially disassemble F. steering head & re-grease the steering bearings at same time.

As to carburation, it doesn't run any leaner than any other Gen2 KLR sold since 2008, (unless plugged jets from storage time) EPA 'lean & clean' approved. Ride it, 0-14,000 feet!

I would get yourself a skidplate and a good set of crash bars. If that bike falls on its left side, your likely to damage the radiator. I believe that part alone is 800 bucks.

Thanks for the tips so far.

Yes I'm doing my own break in maintenance.
Have already changed oil and filter and found some loose bolts. Chain has been properly loosened. Going through it top to bottom before a long trip this weekend.

Yep, front guards put on already after finding out the radiator is where it is.

Potential first-time KLR owner. Are there any issues that I need to address with a new to me 2010 KLR650??

The pictured KLR has 8500kms and seems to be in really clean condition.
Meeting with the owner to view and test ride...

Are there any issues with the 2010 model year that I need to know about ??
I honestly don't know much about the KLR 650 history.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Looks pretty "sanitary," cases probably worth more than the motorcycle!

No model-year-specific worms in a 2010 model, as far as I know.

How did you post images so soon in your website tenure? Special dispensation from the moderator staff?

Just registered and logged in?? Figured asking people that had the knowledge and history with the bike would be a good idea prior to purchasing it..
I will remove the pics and prove my worth..

No, no, no, no, no, no, NO!!!!!!!!!

'Tis a glorious thing that you can enhance your posts with images so soon!

I'm glad you have that capability early on. My comment addressed only the RARITY of a newer member enjoying the privilege of posting images.

Keep 'em coming, and . . . BUY that KLR650!

Please restore the pictures; regrets for stampeding you into excising them, not my intent at all.

Ryan,
We like pics & vids.
Normally there is a 15 post minimum requirement to dis-courage or eliminate scammers and spammers.

You're not the first new member to post pics super early. May have something to do with the newest modern device used. But if you can do it, we hope that the scammers and spammers can't/won't figure it out.
