Warranty and Paint Questions?

I just got a 2008 KLR 650 and wanted to put a new exhaust (Jardine RT-4 Series Slip-On Muffler that Comes with Air Cleaner and Jet Kit) i want to know if this will void my warranty by doing this? Also has anyone painted your bike with the Krylon Fusion for Plastic paint. I know it sounds getto but if it comes out good i would be able to paint it my self when it get's scratched and wanted to know if someone else has used it and if it looks ok?

Yep it will void the warranty if you take it in like that. Keep the old stuff and change it back over if you need it serviced. But I am here to tell you, the Jardine is worth the money. I have the exact same kit on my 07 minus the free Air Cleaner, just throw it in the garbage when you get it. The factory breather flows better.

Altho, our local dealer has started putting Jardine pipes on customer bikes when requested.

+1 on the Jardine can. Mine has the ahem, "quiet" insert and I don't think I'd ride it without it. Seems to rev much easier than before. I'm running stock air filter with the "L" mod to the box and snorkel removed. Jetting is stock except for the "plug" is gone and screw is out 1.5 turns. Needs very little choke when cold starting. Only LOUD when WFO! Mike in TX

It seems that the warranty issue is more of a dealer thing than anything else. I mentioned recently about having to ride 400 miles on a torn carb diaphram (I'm sure I pinched it when installing the Studabaker needle). I was talking to the dealer about ordering me another one when I was asked if the bike was still under warrenty. It was and the service department replace the diaphram at no charge to me. The service desk guy was great, when I told him exactly what I had done to the bike his words were "if we see that the diaphram is defective then we'll replace it". That is what they did and now they have a customer for life.
On a side note, the jardine pipe, studabaker needle, air box mod and PCV valve install mod makes the bike ride like a whole new machine. Even with the 16 tooth counter sprocket it will still lift the front off the ground with only throttle and no help from me. I have to watch it when coming out of slow hard turns as that tends to make you pucker a bit when leaned over in a turn and the front wheel comes off the ground. All that and I'm 6'4" with a 38 inch inseam and weigh around 260 with riding gear on. I guess what I'm saying is even larger guys like me can still have fun on the KLR without it acting like a Honda Rukus.

WOW, you do have a great dealer customer service rep. Keep him on your good side .

We just installed 16 tooth cogs back on our KLR's and did a 300 mile trip down thru Big South Fork Recreation area in Southern Ky and Nothern TN. The bike still has no problem getting front end air and now I am running 300-400 fewer RPM's. Highway travel is much improved in regards to sweetspot and vibrations.

260? Pfftt...your still a light weight .. Add 100 more and know that the front end of my bike can still get some serious air says a lot for the exhaust and carb mods. Gotta love em.
