Some have broken before a 1000 miles and some have lasted over 30,000. It is normally prudent to just go on and change it and not take the chance of having a major problem when you least expect it. $40 is a whole lot cheaper than a new motor in the worst case scenario.
Actually you can see where the bolt shoulder had been overtightened onto the lever. This can cause the lever to bend and not allow the doo to adjust. So there is a possibility even this one might not have adjusted so good even tho it was not broken.
Thats a good catch. I had never thought of it that way. So I guess I'm glad to have gotten that piece o sh** out of there before anything bad happened.
If you ever make it over here feel free to bring me a Doo and your tools and i will provide the room { for yourself and bike } most meals and a personal tour guide { Me of course } and show you around.......... if you can get here about this time next year i am planning a trip to the out back .
Dose the doo hickey make any sertan sounds when going bad that any one knows about i have just turned 1000 miles and herd a nois i have not heard befor.
Well, there is a possibility that if the lever broke and the chain becomes slack, you might here some chain slapping noise, definately not a good sign, as it could jump time and cause all sorts of problems. And then there are those with broken doo's that never hear or feel anything different, and only know there is a problem once they get inside the motor and find it.
The cover has to come off.
If it is broken and under warranty it will be covered and only the OEM part will be put back in by a dealer, altho our dealer will install the after market, they won't cover it or the engine under warranty if it breaks. It won't break..
Well, Kiwi1945 has only been posting about once a year since 2013 also Dave.
I recon that they must ride more & chat less down under.
