Noob Foot Peg Question....

Hello

I am a new KLR owner. I want to change the footpegs to the type that is for sale on KLR650.com

Can someone tell me what tools I'll need and give me some instruction or a link to a how-to page for the footpegs?

Thanks....Steve

Foot pegs are simple. Just pull the pin that holds the pegs to the mount. Remove the old peg, slide in the new one, put pin thru hole and your finished.

Now here is a link for the footpegs that we have and several here on the forum have ordered. They are essentially the same peg as KLR650 but about $50 cheaper.

There is a snap ring or whatever its called holding the pin in place. Sorry for the total noob questions...but how do I take the pin out/replace the snap ring? I'm sure I can do, I just want to have the right tools ready, etc

Thanks again....Steve

My bad, I just use a straight slot screw driver to pry the ring off and then push it back on when you get the new pegs on using some plyers. They are pretty easy to work with. You could also take the pin to a hardware store and get a 10.9 hardness bolt in the same diameter and use a nylock nut on the new bolt to hold the pegs on with. That way the clips can't accidentally pop off and you have a pin fly out and a peg fall off. I rarely ever hear of that but it can happen. With the nylock nut, you just snug it up leaving the peg loose enough to swivel if needed when you drag the pegs going thru a turn .... Hope this helps..

If not mistaken the new pegs come with bolts to replace the pin, at least the set I bought did.

You may want to put a clear coat or some paint on the replacement bolts as they rust.

You will also notice the new pegs are higher and you may have to adjust your shifter upward to compensate. No big deal, just need an 8ml wrench.

Good luck, enjoy the riding

I got the pegs from the above ebay site and I am pleased with the quality and durability. Although it says it comes from another Internet company when I got my package it was from d2 moto. So if you buy them from ebay or d2 moto I think the price is the same. 28$ includes shipping.
