Starting help

Hey guys. My bike isn't starting. 2008 Gen II. Replaced the battery and all the lights work, but I don't get the "in neutral" blue light, and when I attempt to start it I get nothing. No audible click(s), nothing. Bike has sat for a year in storage and I'm dying to get it out (military deployment). I've checked the fuses under the seat and most of the wiring harness. Fuel additive added and stored in climate controlled garage (best I could do). No one has touched it, and it hasn't been started at all while I was gone. Any suggestions for something else I can check? Going to the experts here and asking. Thanks in advance. My best, Tim

Are you sure it's actually in neutral? The neutral light is green.

As a safety precaution the starter will only work when the neutral switch detects the transmission is in NEUTRAL or when the side stand is up and the clutch lever is pulled in.

You might want to try it with the stand up and the clutch pulled to confirm that the start relays and starter motor work. Then find out why you are not getting the green neutral light on the left of the dash.

If the neutral light is not coming on the sidestand switch may have malfunctioned. Mess with it, spray some WD40 on it, or unplug it to see if it will start.

The "Starter Circuit Relay" must have a GROUND, from either the neutral switch OR the clutch switch to energize the Starter Relay and activate the starter motor.

PULL ON YOUR CLUTCH LEVER; jiggle it around, and see if the starter button does not then activate the starter (ignition key ON; stop switch the RUN position). Try the starter button WHILE the clutch lever is fully pulled.

No? Enter the multimeter, and this:

If the bike was running when put away, minor effort should restore the starting circuit to life; good luck!

The neutral switch wire has a leg that feeds directly to the light without passing through any switch contacts, so the light should work unless the transmission is not in neutral (the reason for the light), the light green wire from the neutral switch to the light is open or the neutral switch is not working.

As mentioned above the side stand switch (stand up) and the clutch switch (clever pulled) together bypass the neutral switch for starting purposes, but not for neutral light.
