Newbie-Highway speed?

Is there an easy mod to increase highway top speed? I have a 3 hour road trip mostly state highways with 60-70 mph speed limits. Stock 2011 klr650 with pelican panniers. Thanks!

First I am going to suggest that your drive chain is TOO TIGHT!!!!
IT needs to 'touch' the rubber slider Under the swing-arm when lifted UP. Minimum tire pressure 32 F/ 30 R.

Ask again after 2 tanks of fuel!

I find the 16t sprocket was all I needed to blend in with traffic on fast roads. With the 15t I could keep up, but that was with the engine running at RPM that the internet tells me will cause oil use. After a few trips with the 15t it DID start using more oil. Coincidence? Those were 21-hour trips, though, and for a 3-hour trip I would try to summon some patience (which is easier said than done).

A stock KLR will easily do the 60 - 70 MPH posted speed limits you speak of.

My Kaw Barn - 2004 KLR, 2006 Concours (sold), 1997 Bayou 400.

The 16 tooth front sprocket is the most common upgrade for street use.

It drops the highway rpms to a less buzzy level. I routinely take my '09 into the
80-90mph range and just leave it there for minutes at a time. Then, the scooter cooks
off about a quart every two thousand miles. Totally acceptable. That's only a quart or
two per year between oil changes and as noted I beat the crap out of my bike from
wheelies to high speed runs. Still runs factory new at 18,000+ miles.

I've found with stock configuration (including gearing), those speeds remain comfortably within the grasp of a KLR650; YMMV.

A stock bike will break a true 90 mph threshold, according to valid tests. Much faster requirement? Different platform advisable, IMHO.
