Denali DR1 Wiring Question

Hey All

I just received my new Denali DR1 lights and front fender mount. While the kit comes with a switch, I want to wire the lights directly to my High Beam switch so they come on with my High Beams.

The DR1's only draw 3 amps total (1.5 amps each) so cal I just tap them into my High Beam power wire and ground wire? If so, what colour are they on the newer KLR's?

Thanks all!

I have some gen2 KLRs like you. I tapped into the red wire in the harness branch going out to the high beam plug that connects to the back of the bulb. Then I ran that tapped wire to the switch that came with the lights. With the auxiliary switch on the the new light is controlled by the high beam switch. With it off the new light stays off.

You could also get ground from the yellow/black wire in the same harness branch. I shot a screw into the metal plate below the dash with all the electronics mounted on it and used that for ground.

In my case I had installed LED H7 bulbs in the head lights so by adding a 20 watt light to that circuit I actually was not increasing the amps in that circuit over the stock amps.

In your case it appears you may be adding two 20 watt lights onto the original 55 watt H7 incandescent high beam circuit. If so, you may see some dimming of the main head light. You may want to consider running a separate fused circuit from the battery through a relay to the new lights and control the relay with the high beam switch.

I just installed DX1 this past weekend. The white wire on Denali harness is just for that purpose. Not to even bother myself with modifying wiring, I just hooked them up as per their instructions and lights work just fine- with high beam or without...

That is great. What colour wire/where did you find the wire to attach the white wire to?

Don't remember, but I've tap to the connector wire right before the build while plastics unscrewed and pulled forward for access. Try touching white wire from Denali harness either one of the hi beam wires while flipping hi beam switch (don't forget to turn ON Denali switch ON).
