LED part #'s 4 U

Needed to save some power so I converted to LED's. I didn't do the turns or the high beam and I just removed the license plate bulb. Screw it. I had to add a large metal lock washer to the headlight bulb to get the retainer to hold it in place. It's really bright. Going to have to see how oncoming cars like it. Ordered from all from Superbrightled.com

Toney,
Why did you not convert the High Beam Headlight?
That is the ONE that saves your Bacon, Day or Night!
So that is one that burns out first on my bike.

44 bucks for a light that is off 99% of the time and I wasn't sure I'd like the bulb. Tight ass I guess.

High Beam in the daytime, 'points' the light where they can see it!
High beam should be On more often than Not!
Just look down the straight highway, tell me which bikes you see First! And how far away?

Point taken but.... Where and when I ride, I'm not really worried about the light. I'd rather have heat. In fact I'm considering adding an "off" switch or I may add a relay that kills the power to the low beam when the bike is in neutral. I went riding one day and the GPS said I averaged 12 MPH. NOT A TYPO! LOL. I think I passed about 5 cars that day. The place that I get into the most traffic is the Blue Ridge Parkway.

When on the road, I expect that EVERY CAR will pull out in front of me. Sometimes I flash the highbeam at them. Mostly I can control what goes on in front of me. I'm more worried about deer, bear and elk than cars. I've been riding with that mindset 40 years. (YIKES!) The closest I ever came to hitting something was a turkey. Thanksgiving dinner passed right in front of the handlebars at 60 MPH. I eat if every year as a payback.

What I worry most about is the guy behind me. I added 7 LED's to the bike that I've installed on the trunk. Four flashing LED brake lights and one other LED brake strip. That's 6 brake lights (including the factory brake light). I've also added red side marker LED's on the trunk sides. When I brake it's a light show and you can see the side markers from the rear as well so I have 3 marker lights visible from the rear.

When I rode Goldwings, I always installed a headlight modulator but that was a totally different kind of riding. 80 MPH in traffic!

Today if I had to ride in traffic, I might even light up my helmet but if that was the case, I'd probably be in a Volvo.

Elk? On the East Coast? I was unaware that there were any Elk herds back there. Where at? And where to you live Toney?

East Tennessee. They were reintroduced into Royal Blue Wildlife Management Area. They're almost tame. TWRA set up a wildlife viewing area and they are used to people and 4 wheelers. We drove right up next to three of them on our Razor 800 and they didn't move. The wife spotted an adult bull about a mile from the house. They're a huge animal. I'd hate to hit one! They're also in the Smoky Mountains. I passed within feet of one on the Blue Ridge Parkway once. It was eating grass on the side of the road. The deer run from you put the elk don't care if you're there or not. I've got a cool picture of my wife on her CB300F 20 feet from an elk. There were 3 of them there. All cows. She kept saying "Quick, take it. Is it coming this way?"

Cool pic, from your part of the country, Toney.
I did not know that "Wapati", a native American name for "Elk" as we know them, ranged that far East.

As to their 'tameness', every year in Yellowstone NP, someone "pets" the wrong Deer, Elk, Moose, Bison alongside the walking path or road inside YNP, and pays the penalty of bumps, bruises or worse!

I, myself have been with-in the 'thickness' of auto-glass from being 'nose-to-nose' with a bear! Back in the 1960's when "Bear-Jams" were the norm in YNP. My mother rolled the rear window up 'Faster than any Electric Motor' could have (in that period)! I think the bear and I both left 'smears' on the window!
