2012 Stock Muffler

Anybody in Canada got a stock muffler for a 2012 that they'd be willing to sell? Have an FMF Q4 on the bike now which has a nice sound, but I'm planning a long trip and can't see doing multiple re-packs on the road,

I don't believe u will have to do multiple re packs. I have 4 thousand on my fmf power core and have no plans on re packing it anytime soon. Grab a couple sets of foam earplugs and enjoy the trip. Just my thoughts.

Can anybody help with whether or not it will fit.

Vancouver isn't an issue as I'm not in a big rush for it - how much do you want for it?

Yes it will fit. All years 1987-2017 KLR650's with either stock header pipes or aftermarket header pipe.

G_Wall, Is the thick gray joint gasket still in the muffler? Is the OEM pipe clamp still on the muffler? If not, dj may need to purchase one?

dj, Check the torque on the nuts at the cylinder head to header pipe, 15 ft lbs. Use a little Anti-Sieze grease on the Muffler mounting bolt and nut threads and Torque to 18 ft. lbs.

Been trying to research this and my head hurts.

It appears 2008-11 are the same, 2012-14 are different, and 2015-16 are different again, but I've no idea what the differences are. Can anyone comment?

Just a guess, but the first batch may not have the bolts on the bottom of the muffler chamber to clean out the carbon buildup for the spark arrestor. The second batch may have. And the third batch prob has these bolts and a catalytic converter. I don't believe any of that is a concern and I believe it should bolt up just fine.

2011 and up have cats.....all will fit.

I'd second the repacking schedule issue; depending how long a trip you're talking about, repacking may not be required.

Another option is a LeoVince X3; no repacking required. I have one on my 2000 and love it....I also have a Q4 on my 2001 and it's nice too but a bit too loud compared to the X3 (96db vs. 94db)

2 cents,
Dave
