I just picked up one of these for $15 from a garage sale, going to install it very soon. It looks exactly the same but the previous owner must have taken the EMGO logos off. The quick release is a neat feature and it's big enough to take one helmet. Cool to see one has been put on a KLR and I can't wait to test mine out!
I have a ammo bag from walmart that fits inside the trunk. If I go to the store and need more room. I take the bag out and bungee it to the seat so the trunk is empty.
When I bolted on my trunk I covered the KLR factory tools. I just put the tools in the trunk. I drilled holes in the KLR rack to mount it. When I sold the bike, I got black plastic clips from Autozone and they hid the holes nicely.
Consider adding LED's to the trunk. I added flashing brake lights and side markers. Gets the lights up high. I used a trailer plug so I could still take the trunk off. (Never did)
The reflector on the rear that looks like it should light up and could be mistaken for a brake light. I took it off and put two black plastic bolts in the holes.
The EMGO emblem on the top is ugly. If you remove it, you can cover the bad looking spot in the plastic with a mascot. A squirrel looks good up there. About any stuffed animal will do but if you know a taxidermist, real stuff makes people look twice. You can use just the head. People think the rest of the animal is in the trunk and it's just sticking its head out.
