First oil change when?

Hi all.

I see mentioned here and there doing first oil change at 300 miles (or there abouts) yet the owners manual says 600 miles which is also the break in period to keep it below 4000 rpm. My 2016 just turned 400.
Why change earlier than Recommended by Kawasaki?

Change it at 600mi and put on a new Kawasaki filter and save your receipts.

I did mine at 42 miles, 100 miles, then every 2,000.

First two were very pearly with micro bits in the filter.
This also tells us that the filter did it's job just fine and
it's possible I'm in the overkill crowd. Just a personal thing
with me to get the first change in around 100 miles or less.

Yeah, I'm in the same group. I did mine at 100, 300 and then 600. Then oil every 2000 and filter every 4000.

dan filipi,
I sold Kawasaki motorcycles for 40 years and KLR's for 32 years (counting 600's). Never once had a problem arise from doing the 1st oil change at the 500-600 mile mark. Some owners put it off until 1000 miles!
We need to save some of them dinosaurs for later and Kawasaki sells a great oil.

The 1st oil change is always very shiny. Even the 25th oil change will be shiny, if we take the oil pan out into the sunlight and swirl it around. (I encourage everybody to have a look)
All the metal parts are polishing in together. The oil filter Can Not collect the super fines, as in less than about 35 microns.
Most of what you will see in the pleats of the oil filter is Pink and Blue paint, from marker pens used on parts inside the engine during assembly.

Synthetic

Im just getting ready to do my first oil change. Im new here and just wondering when and if you all use the regular kawasaki oil or a synthetic .If you do a synthetic, about what mileage would you start. Im sure this has been discussed before but I havent figured out how to search for it.

Life is to short to ride ugly motorcycles. Black is always the fastest color!

FWIW,I was told by 2 Kawasaki dealers don't use syn until after the first 1000 miles

I think that is old school thinking, when you look at all the new bikes and cars that come with syn oil from the factory!

I mostly agree especially if using MC and wet clutch safe oil, though I'm not basing this on any research I've done so take it with a grain of salt.
